FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Living in a Houseboat or Floating Home

Floating homes in Bluffers Park Marina

What's it like when it's windy or wavy?

The marina is well protected, so the swells never get very large around the floating home and houseboat docks. When it's very windy (mostly when it blows from the East), the homes typically rock gently or drift side to side.

What are additional fees?

Electricity is metered and charged monthly by the marina. Marine insurance is typically paid yearly. Wifi is available from a number of providers, including Bell Fibe.

What’s it like living in a houseboat in the winter?

Beautiful and peaceful! The marina and Bluffers Park empty out in the winter, leaving a small community of year-round residents. You can cross-country ski around the park, enjoy the local skating rink, and take lengthy walks around the waterfront. The lake effect means the marina is often a few degrees warmer in the winter.

Do houseboats & float homes pay property tax?

Houseboats do not pay taxes. Floating Homes pay appx. $796/year.

What does the mooring fee cover?

City water, unassigned parking, garbage, additional laundry and shower facilities at the pier building, mail services, electrical connection on the dock, and access to septic pump-out facilities. (You can also pay the marina to have them do your pump out).

Can they move to another slip?

Floating Homes have their designated slip. Houseboats with permission and arrangement from the marina can be moved to another similar size slip.
