ABOUT FLOATING HOMES

Toronto’s floating homes offer the opportunity to live in a spacious house and unique waterfront community that is unmatched anywhere in the city.

History of Toronto's Floating Homes

The 25 float homes were originally constructed in 1999 as part of Toronto’s Olympic bid and were intended to house dignitaries. When the city lost the bid, the homes were privately purchased and floated to their current location in Bluffers Park.

Regulations in Toronto now prohibit the building of new floating homes, so these ones are both rare and unique!

What are Floating Homes?

Floating homes are constructed on floating concrete bases. Due to their durability and superior floatation, they can bear more weight than a houseboat on pontoons. This means floating homes have a similar openness and space to a typical Toronto home.

Wintertime in a Floating Home

Unlike Houseboats, the concrete bases of float homes are built to withstand the Canadian winter. This means you don’t have to use bubblers, and they can freeze in place with the dropping temperatures.

When the weather gets colder, all you need to do is plug in heat tracers for your pipes, and enjoy the peacefulness of Bluffers Park in the wintertime.
