ABOUT HOUSEBOATS

Houseboats in the Scarborough Bluffs provide a cost-effective alternative to downtown Toronto housing with an unparalleled lifestyle on the water.

About Houseboats

Most of the houseboats in the Bluffers Park Marina do not have engines. This means that they are typically stationary and docked in the same slip, much like a tiny home on the water! They are well-designed, allowing for the comforts of a regular home in a more minimalist footprint.

Houseboat Maintenance

Houseboat maintenance is surprisingly minimal. Since they are located on Lake Ontario, a freshwater lake, there isn't much corrosion. Houseboats usually have to be taken out of the water every few years for pontoon maintenance and to check the integrity of the superstructure.

In the wintertime, houseboats need to have little underwater fans (called bubblers or de-icers) on when the temperature drops. This ensures that ice doesn't freeze around the pontoons. Most houseboat owners have these connected to smart plugs, making bubblers' running simple and effective.
